The opening of the children's telling

Long ago lived a good and gentle lady named Madanrekha. She loved her husband, Prince Yugbahu, and her little boy, and she loved the teachings of the Jinas. Another baby was coming soon.

The king of that land did not behave well. He wanted things that were not his. One night, because of his greed and anger, Prince Yugbahu was badly hurt, and Madanrekha knew his life was coming to an end.
