The opening of the children's telling

Once upon a time there was a princess named Rohini. She was always calm and kind. She never shouted and never sulked. Her face was peaceful, like a quiet lake in the morning.

Rohini married King Ashok. One day the king met a wise monk in a garden. He asked, Why is my queen always so gentle? The monk smiled and told him a story from long, long ago.
