The opening of the children's telling

Long ago there was a king in a land called Gandhara. He liked to climb a mountain to visit his wife, so people called him Naggati, the one who goes to the mountain.

One spring morning, King Naggati rode out with his big army. Beside the road he saw a wonderful mango tree. It was covered in golden flowers, and bees were humming all around it. It smelled so sweet. The king smiled, reached up, and picked one little bunch of flowers.
