About JainStory

JainStory is a library of 372 Jain stories for children and families, one for every night of the year, in English, Hindi and Gujarati. It is made by Moweb Technologies Private Limited in Ahmedabad, India.

Why we made it

Children ask for a new story every night. We wanted Jain families everywhere to have one from our own tradition, told gently enough for bedtime, so the stories children fall asleep to are stories of ahimsa, truth and forgiveness.

How the stories are written

Every traditional story is a new retelling of a Jain narrative, checked against published sources such as the Kalpa Sutra, the Trishashti Shalaka Purusha Charitra, JAINA Pathshala books and the Jain eLibrary. Each story page lists the sources it was checked against. Parables and modern stories written for JainStory are marked as original.

Shvetambar and Digambar

Where the two traditions tell a story differently, the story says which telling it follows. Of the 372 stories, 175 follow the Shvetambar telling, 10 the Digambar telling, and 172 are told the same way in both.

Two tellings, three languages

All but three stories have a short telling for children aged 4 to 9 as well as the full telling; the three are written for grown-ups only. Every story is available in English, Hindi and Gujarati.
