What it teaches Wisdom Ahimsa Care for small creatures Humility

The opening of the children's telling

In a little village by a big river, there lived a girl called Kesar. Her grandmother had taught her to always look where she walked. 'The ground is full of tiny lives,' Ba said. 'Ants and worms and beetles. Walk gently, so you never hurt them.' So Kesar always looked down, and she knew every ant home in the village.

One rainy season, it rained and rained for many days. The river grew big and brown. But the grown-ups said, 'Do not worry. The river always grows like this.'
